This past Friday was Valentines Day. And for those of us who celebrate, it is supposed to represent love. But what is Love? Do we even know what love is? Right now, I am reading a book by Bell Hooks entitled "All About Love," according to this author, love is a mixture of various ingredients ---- care, affection, recognition, respect, commitment, and trust, as well as open and honest communication. Love is as love does, she says. Love is an act of will ---- namely both and intention and an action. Love is a choice. Would you agree?
Love is one of the most profound emotions known to man. It has been the subject of poetry, music, philosophy and countless stories throughout history. But what is it really? Each one of us has our own definition of what love means to us, or who we would like to be loved in all of our relationships.
According to the bible in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 it says Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, nor does it keep records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always perseveres. Love never fails.
Overall message: This passage portrays love as an active choice to prioritize others, be forgiving, and remain steadfast through difficult situations, showcasing the highest ideal of love as described in the Bible.
We must remember that love isn't just about grand gestures or fairy-tale romance. Love exists in the little things like checking in on a friend, offering a kind word to a stranger, forgiving someone or even taking care of yourself. Self-love is very important as well.
Love is complex, multifaceted, and deeply personal. Love can bring joy, pain, growth, and transformation. While philosophers, poets, and scientists may continue to explore its mysteries, one thing remains clear: love, in all of its forms, is what makes life meaningful.
So I ask the question, what does love mean to you? Leave a comment on this blog post and let the world know. You can comment anonymously.
Sending you love, light and positive vibes,
