Mind Over Matter

cassiekarch

Have you ever heard the phrase, "a mind is a terrible thing to waste?" That saying is more than just a catchy slogan, it's a powerful truth. So let me ask you this, do you realize that our minds are the driving force behind our dreams, decisions, and daily lives? All too often, we neglect them, letting them stagnate, stress out, or get caught up in cycles of negativity.

When we aren't actively cultivating our minds, we are wasting one of our most valuable assets. So, let me ask you this, what book are you currently reading? How are you exercising your mind? I am reading 3 books at the moment. All About Love by Bell Hooks, The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz and Seven African Powers The Orishas by Monique Joiner Siedlak. I also memorized lines to a stage play I was cast in, challenging my brain on a whole different level.

Did you know that lifelong learning keeps our minds sharp. The moment you stop learning; you start limiting your potential. Whether it's reading, exploring new ideas, or developing skills, continuous learning keeps your mind engaged and sharp. Below are just a few ways you can keep your mind working:

1. Read books that challenge your perspective - reading about the Seven African Powers challenges what I’ve always been taught.

2. Take up new hobbies that require mental effort - I recently had to memorize a part of a stage play I was cast in. I am also learning Spanish so that I can hold a brief conversation.

3. Engage in conversation that makes you think - some of my friends also pose thought provoking questions and I love it when it causes me to dig deeper into my thoughts.

You don't neglect your body, so why would you neglect your mind? Now for those who are reading this who do neglect their bodies, well you have work to do. Do you realize that anxiety, stress, and burnout can cloud your thinking? It also takes a toll on your total well-being. We must prioritize our mental health along with exercising our minds. Below are some ways you can care for your mind.

1. Make sure you are getting enough rest as sleep fuels our brains so it can function.

2. Practice mindfulness to stay present and reduce stressors in our lives.

3. Seek therapy or talk to someone when you need to.

4. Make sure are setting boundaries to protect your peace.

Your mind is your greatest asset, but only if you use it wisely. Don't let it be wasted on negativity, stagnation, or distractions that don't serve you. Invest in learning, mental health, creativity, and strong connections.

Every day is a new day for an opportunity to expand your mind, let’s not waste it.

What are you doing today to challenge and grow your mind?

Sending you love, light and positive vibes,

Cassie K.
