Don’t Dim Your Light!

It can be challenging at times to keep your light shining in the midst of darkness, but it is so fulfilling.  I do my absolute best to keep my mind fixed on everything going good in my life despite what may be going bad. I try to stay positive 90% of the time. Now today I was tested and had to come back to God's goodness after I snapped.  I was at the grocery store walking towards the self-checkout and there was this white man walking towards me. He slightly brushed me with his arm and then had the nerve to say to me "excuse you." To which I responded very loudly and a little hostile, "not excuse me, but excuse you!" "You are walking in the wrong direction in the store."  I allowed that brief moment of disrespect to take me out of character. I almost went back into the 90's for just a moment and went gangsta on him. (insert laugh here). If you've read my story in my book Identity Cry-Sis, you would know exactly what I am referring to.  I was so irritated when I left the store that I had to make a video and post it to my Instagram story to release what had just happened.  The audacity of some people.

I just had to let you know that I am human too. No matter how hard I try to keep on the straight and narrow, I veer off sometimes. That's when I need to check myself and remind myself not to allow anyone to disrupt my peace. My peace is my top priority. Now let’s get back to shining our lights. The bible says in Matthew 5:16 to let your light shine that other will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.  You never know who you will touch from the brightness of your spirit. Just the other day I decided to check my mailbox and received a beautiful card from someone I consider a long-lost sister.  We have never met in person, but we became close during the pandemic when my friend Flame Monroe used to do her daily check in's on Instagram during that time of lockdown.  Flame brought so many people together at that time and a few of us are still holding strong in our relationships.

The card read, Happy Mom Day and the inside message said: you do so many things to fill my world with so much love, so today I am sending some of it back to you.  She penned her message to me that said she loves the light in me and to never let it go.  She doesn't know it, but I needed this message I received from her today.  I do my best to fill myself up daily so that I can be a light to this world.  Share my life experiences in hopes that someone will have a better day. Reminding you and I to keep our minds clear of negativity and hold on to all of the positivity. But being the strong person I am, I need someone to lift me up at times too.

Here a few things you can do to keep your light shining:

·  Be authentic. Only you can be you, so embrace your uniqueness.

·  Stay focused. Keep learning and growing into becoming a better you.

·  Share your knowledge. It takes a community to build a community.

·  Be kind. Operate in empathy to yourself and others.

·  Be grateful. Keep an attitude of gratitude and thankfulness.

·  Take Action. Do the right thing even when it’s difficult.

·  Surround yourself with positivity. Ask for help when you need it.

Don't ever let anyone cause you to dim your light, not even yourself, especially when you have done the work. You have come too far to turn back now.  There is nothing that the old you can do for this new version of you. Keep shining, keep laughing, and keep enjoying life the best way you know how.  You Got This!!

Sending you love, light and positive vibes,

Cassie K.

Hi Cassie! 👋🏾 Thank you for sharing your weekly blogs. I don't always get a chance to read them much lately, as I am in the process of packing to move to a new apartment. This blog really came to light for me, not so much financially, but in general. I recently rekindled a long-time relationship. I've been the happiest I've been in years! However, there are times when he appears to be very judgemental of some of my life choices made during our absence from one another. I've tried to express my feelings to him about it, but he doesn't always understand where I'm coming from. When I read this post, somethings really hit home for me in your…

I always tell my son, don’t let NOBODY steal your joy. I believe what you said in your post and my daily reminder to myself is the same. Don’t dim your light. I loved the whole entire message. It’s definitely easy to come out of character when someone has done or said something wrong. I always try my best to remember to give people the same grace that God gives me daily. You did the right thing by acknowledging your response to him even though he was dead wrong. We all carry burdens unbeknownst to others, and that definitely doesn’t give any of us the right to be mean or disrespectful to others. I also love how you recognize that…
