One Saturday about a week ago I was working on a project, typing away on my computer and felt extremely tired. I just couldn’t keep my eyes open, so I decided to go lay down and take a power nap and set my alarm for 15 minutes. The first 15 minutes wasn’t enough, so I needed another round of 15 minutes. Right before the second alarm sounded, I awoke, something in my gut told me something was off. You know what? I totally spaced that I had chicken boiling on the stove and almost burnt the house down. Had I let that chicken boil for another five minutes we would’ve been burnt to a crisp, as there was minimal water left in the pot. Why would we have been toast, because I had yet to replace the batteries in the main smoke alarm in the hallway. It's been replaced now.
Has that ever happened to you? It doesn't necessarily have to be burning chicken, but you could have started something, not to finish and then started something else. What I was experiencing in the moment was a bout of absent mindedness. According to Webster this is often caused by things such as boredom, sleepiness, rumination, distraction, or preoccupation with one's own internal monologue. How many times have you been sitting in conversation with someone and didn't hear a thing they were saying because of your own inner dialog or thoughts. I know my God will not give me more than I can handle, but sometimes when you are in a situation, it seems unbearable. The bible tells us in Proverbs 16:3 to Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. Let me take a moment to pause and pray and know that my faith, along with some action will bring me through.
Life is happening to and for all of us. Make sure we are pausing, taking a break when we need to and prioritizing our mental health. There will be times that we can't take care of everything and that's when we need to make a list and move according to importance. No, I don't have the fourteen thousand on hand that it will take to get a new roof, I mean I just spent a lot of money (All I saved) last year replacing my HVAC system. Now I do have other resources I can tap into, but I didn't want to because my focus has been to get out of debt completely, but this is something that has to get done ASAP. To all my first-time homeowners out there, make sure you are contacting your insurance company first and filing a claim as soon as you see something off. The worst they can say is it’s not covered, but you won't know until you ask.
With all of this said, don't let the stresses of this world weigh you down or cause you to tap out. When you have literally done all, you can, your God will handle the rest. Just make sure you are open and ready to receive the help when it comes, because it's definitely coming some way and somehow! I believe that, do you?
Sending you love, light and positive vibes,
Cassie K.
