About two years ago I went down into my shed to do something, and I heard a pop when I tried to turn the light on. I said to myself, "well I guess it's time to replace that light fixture." I called my dad to come and fix it and when he came, he decided on his own to put an outlet there instead of the light fixture I asked him to. I was a little irritated and what really pushed me through the roof was the fact that the new outlet wasn't working, but none of the outlets were working. And because I was frustrated that things weren't working correctly; I blamed my dad and told him that he broke it. He swore up and down that He didn't break it, that it was something else and that I probably just needed to flip a switch on the circuit breaker. When I told him I already did that, he told me I would need to call an electrician. He attempted to orchestrate an appointment with someone he knew but they turned out to be flaky. I had reached out to another company and was informed that I might need to replace my circuit breaker box because of the age of my house. That could easily cost $3000 depending on what I need.
So I decided to do what folks used to do back in the day and that is borrow power from somewhere else. How many of you reading this post remember a time when either your parents and someone in the neighborhood would run an extension cord from one house to another just to have power? Some of you are laughing right now at the memory. Well, my fix was to run an extension cord from an outlet near my garage all the way to the shed and boom we have power. This was definitely not something that was safe but I was determined.
A few weeks back my daughter saw a post on Facebook about someone she knew who dealt with a local small electrical business and she told me about it. I reached out and within a week Mr. Cecil came out to assess my issue. I walked him through my house and showed him what I thought was wrong. Within 5 minutes he had the power back on as all that had happened was that the outlet had tripped. It was such a simple fix, all I needed to do was hit the reset button the outlet right outside my sliding glass door and boom we had power. I was in disbelief and quite amazed at how easy it was.
What I appreciate about Mr. Cecil was his integrity and honesty. There have been plenty of times where I've had a contractor come out and do work on my home, only to find out months or years later that they cut corners but charged me the full amount. So, I am very skeptical about hiring people nowadays.
You want to hear something funny? I called my dad to tell him about the simple fix and he said he knew that all along. I said in my mind, "no you didn't because if you did it would have been fixed way back when." Then he proceeded to scold me about not knowing that simple solution because I am the homeowner. All I could do was laugh inside and thank God that it was finally fixed, and we were back in the electrical business. If you are ever in need of an electrician and you live in King, Pierce or Thurston County Washington, I highly recommend B.E.S.T. which stands for Blessed Electrical Service Team, they will get you going correctly!
Sending you love, light and positive vibes,
